Rookie Rebel Form Guide & Tips
(1) Ascend Geranium ($17.00)
He has a good record at the track and distance, but it didn’t come at Group 1 level, so we’re leaving him out of our picks.
(2) Miss Envy (Best Bet – $2.40)
Boasting 28 wins from 48 starts, and although beaten last time out, she looks set to turn that form around.
She’s having her first start at the track and distance, which is a worry, but she’s the class runner of the field, hence the odds.
We expect her to be right there in the finish.
(3) Vista Weird ($7.50)
If he gets luck early in the race, he can figure in the finish. The odds are slightly too short for where we rated him, but he’s a first four chance.
He just needs to pick the jump and get ahead of Miss Envy early.
(4) Valenzuela ($8.00)
He’s another runner that needs to ping the lids, otherwise, it’s race over. Showed good speed to finish second behind Paw Petrov, but we don’t think that’s the best form guide for the Rookie Rebel.
(5) Paw Petrov ($9.00)
He has yet to run worse than second in four attempts at the track and distance, so the $9 odds are worth including.
His good finish to beat Valenzuela was impressive last time out, and if he avoids early trouble, he could wind up best down the back straight.
(6) Echoes of Dad (Best Each Way – $3.80)
He owns 13 wins from 32 starts, and his win at Angle Park two back was followed up by a big win in the prelude.
That form should be enough to see him run in the money, and he has been best backed to beat Miss Envy.
Include him on an each-way basis.
(7) He’s Magic ($10.00)
A three-time winner at the track and distance, but most of his best form comes against easier fields. Hard to have him in this lineup.
(8) Daysea’s Rory (Best Roughie – $12.00)
He is always tough to beat in Group 1 races, and although he’s trying 600m for the first time, his racing pattern suggests that he’ll like it.
Drawing wide isn’t a problem, and punters get much better odds than expected.
(9) Paw Vortex ($7.00)
Needs a scratching to get into the race, but it’s a chance if it does. Likely to head forward and be tough to run down.
(10) Nigel Devere ($7.00)
Nominated for an undercard race, and he’s our top pick for that event.
