The LIV players are $2.20 to win, but given how well DeChambeau has played in 2024, they have every chance of producing an upset over 18 holes.

Punters are taking a risk with backing the LIV duo. However, we don’t think there is much chemistry with McIlroy and Scheffler, who are not only on opposing Ryder Cup teams, but with McIlroy backtracking over the PGA Tour vs LIV Tour debate, there was some tension.

We believe there is more comradery with LIV players, despite DeChambeau and Koepka formally hating on each other. They have come closer, and with seven major championships between them, which is five more than Scheffler has, they have every chance to win.

We can’t take the $1.65 with golf odds for McIlroy and Scheffler to win. This format benefits DeChambeau and Koepka, so take the value available.

The Showdown First 6 Holes Winner – DeChambeau/Koepka

The first six holes is a fourballs competition, which could help the better ball strikers in McIlroy and Scheffler. However, we believe DeChambeau and Koepka will come out humming.

McIlroy isn’t playing his best golf in 2024, and although Scheffler comes off a win the Hero Challenge, he faced a limited field where the world’s best players were missing, so there is more competition in The Showdown.

If DeChambeau and Koepka start poorly, it could be all over. Therefore, they will want to come out fast and set the early tone. The $2.70 odds are generous in a two-horse race, so back the underdogs to start fastest.

The Showdown Holes 7-12 – Scheffler/McIlroy

We’re happy to concede Scheffler and McIlroy should win the foursomes, mostly because Scheffler is so good at hitting approach shots.

DeChambeau has more power than any other player in The Showdown, but we worry about Koepka’s approach shots into the green. He could struggle to pay off Bryson’s big drives with a good shot, whereas Scheffler and McIlroy are more accurate.

That should be enough to see the favourites win the foursomes and potentially beg back the deficit in the middle six holes.

The Showdown First Hole Winner – DeChambeau/Koepka

Punters can bet on which duo wins the first hole, with the tie being a $1.56 favourite. However, considering the odds, we’re backing DeChambeau and Koepka.

The fourball format means a birdie is likely needed to break the tie, but it could come from DeChambeau, who has the length advantage off the tee.

Getting $4.00 for the LIV stars to win the opening hole is too good to pass up, and it gets the action going for golf punters.
