Australian PGA Championship Tips & Predictions
—
Australian PGA Championship Winner – Cameron Smith
LIV golfers have been playing well on the DP World Tour recently, including Tyrrell Hatton. We’re hoping to see Cameron Smith join the winners club, and it would be a popular win.
Smith is one of the most popular golfers in the world, but his following in Australia is tenfold. He plays well in his home country, having won the Australian PGA Championship three times in 2017, 2018, and 2022.
His form at LIV has been mixed over the last 12 months, but class is with Smith, and punters get $9.00 for the 31-year-old Queenslander to prevail at Royal Queensland Golf Club, where he will have more supporters than any other player in the field.
Bet: Cameron Smith @ $9.00
Australian PGA Championship Next Best – Min Woo Lee
Speaking of popular players, Lee falls into that category. The 26-year-old from Perth has a cult following around the world and he would love to pay them off with a win.
He is the defending Australian PGA Championship winner, having scored a three-shot win over Rikuya Hoshino in 2023. He shot –20 to win, which was an excellent score, and it was his first tour win since taking out the 2021 Scottish Open.
His lack of PGA Tour wins could count against him, especially compared to the likes of Day and Smith. However, he’s a bright young star, and his best golf is ahead of him.
Lee is being respected in betting markets at $8.50, and although Smith is a much better value pick, we’re not leaving Lee out of our golf picks.
Bet: Min Woo Lee @ $8.50
Australian PGA Championship Best Value – Lucas Herbert
Often an underrated player, Lucas Herbert shouldn’t be overlooked this week, following a win at the NSW Open.
The 28-year-old is a three-time European Tour winner, including the 2023 Handa Championship in Japan, and he’s also a one-time PGA Tour winner.
That came at the 2021 Butterfield Bermuda Championship when beating LIV players Danny Lee and Patrick Reed by a shot, so he has quality wins on the board.
There has been good respect for him in betting markets at $13.00, and that’s good to see. We would have loved bigger odds, but he’s still a value hope, and getting double-figure odds for a form golfer is good shopping.
Bet: Lucas Herbert @ $13.00
Australian PGA Championship 1st Round Leader – Jordan Smith
Jordan Smith is a good chance to hold the first-round lead at odds of $31.00.
The English golfer played well at the DP World Tour Championship last week when finishing T19 behind Rory McIlroy, and he should bring confidence to Australia.
The 32-year-old is a two-time DP World Tour winner, including the 2022 Portugal Masters. He shot –30 overall for that tournament following an opening round of 62, which shows he can shoot low numbers to start the tournament.
Given the odds available, we’re happy to include him in our picks to lead after Round 1.
Bet: Jordan Smith @ $31.00
