India vs Australia @ Dubai International Stadium

It comes as no surprise to see India listed at $1.50 to beat Australia. It was the pre-tournament favourite, and it hasn’t done much wrong throughout the two weeks, including posting a win over New Zealand on Sunday night.

That was an interesting game against the Kiwis, with the winner set to face Australia and the loser facing South Africa. We think New Zealand would have preferred to lose and face South Africa as opposed to win and face the always-dangerous Australians.

Australia is a tough team on its day, but it hasn’t been all smooth sailing. It had two games that were abandoned, including one against Afghanistan and South Africa, so we’re not sure what to make of the underdogs. Bookmakers have Australia at $2.62, which is a fair price.

We don’t expect there to be much between India and Australia, but conditions in Dubai suit India. Its batters have been relishing in the conditions, and it was good to see its spin attack take care of New Zealand in the dead-rubber game.

Australia’s senior players need to make a stand, but India is playing too well. Take the $1.50 odds and include India in ICC Champions Trophy multis.

South Africa vs New Zealand @ Gaddafi Stadium

South Africa made it into the semifinals via a demolition of England, but beating England in this tournament hasn’t been too difficult.

England set 179 before South Africa chased it down in 29.1 overs, so most of the team is fresh and ready to take on a much harder challenge in New Zealand, which has arguably been the second-best team in the competition.

New Zealand might have lost to India on Sunday in a game that meant little, but it looked good when beating Bangladesh and Pakistan with ease. Those wins bode well for the $2 underdogs, and we thought bookmakers would have the Kiwis favourites to win.

Kane Williamson, Rachin Ravindra, and Daryl Mitchell are in good form, and it has more quality all rounders than most teams in the Champions Trophy. We’re unsure if South Africa has the same level of depth, so if the top order gets rolled, New Zealand could score comfortably.

Given the current odds, which could shorten on game day, we’re picking New Zealand to win. We believe it’s the better team, and having spent more time on the pitch than South Africa could work in its favour.
