AFL Round 23 Expert Tips & Predictions 2025

The AFL continues this week for Round 23 action, kicking off with Essendon vs. St Kilda on Friday night.

We have AFL betting tips for every game in 2025, including this week’s featured games between Fremantle vs. Brisbane, Gold Coast vs. GWS, and Adelaide vs. Collingwood.

7:20pm Essendon vs. St Kilda @ Marvel Stadium

Betting Tip: St Kilda –24.5 @ $1.90

Essendon put up some sort of fight last week against Geelong, but it wasn’t good enough, and St Kilda should take advantage.

The Saints are still on the outside looking in, but they will want to finish the year strong, and beating the Bombers isn’t overly hard.

Covering the –24.5 line shouldn’t be hard either, so back St Kilda to get Round 23 off to a winning start.

8:20pm Fremantle vs. Brisbane @ Optus Stadium

Betting Tip: Fremantle –3.5 @ $1.90

We’re taking a risk by betting against Brisbane, which has more experience winning big games, but the Fremantle march towards the finals is in full effect.

The Dockers might have scraped by last week, but they kept the momentum going with a win over Port Adelaide, and they could take their long winning streak into the AFL Finals.

A win over Brisbane would be huge, and we’re happy to take the risk and back the home team.

Saturday 16/8/25

12:35pm Gold Coast vs. GWS @ People First Stadium

Betting Tip: Gold Coast –12.5 @ $1.90

Pressure is on Gold Coast and GWS to hold on to a finals spot, and we fancy the SUNS to win on Saturday afternoon.

They are always tough to beat at home, and they tend to play much better during the daytime. The conditions suit them more than the Giants, which is why they’re favoured to win.

1:20pm Carlton vs. Port Adelaide @ Marvel Stadium

Betting Tip: Carlton –12.5 @ $1.90

Port Adelaide are better positioned on the AFL ladder than Carlton, but we’re backing the Blues to score an overdue win.

Not much has gone their way in 2025, but they played well against Fremantle two weeks ago, and it should have won that game.

Things should be easier against Port Adelaide, hence the –12.5 line.

4:15pm Hawthorn vs. Melbourne @ MCG

Betting Tip: Hawthorn –22.5 @ $1.90

The Hawks showed just how good they can be last week when beating Collingwood 110-46, and they shouldn’t take their foot off the gas pedal on Saturday against Melbourne.

The Demons are always a tough team to predict, but with all things being equal, Hawthorn should win and cover the spread.

It could pay to take the –22.5 line before it moves throughout the week, as most of the money should come for the Hawks.

7:35pm Adelaide vs. Collingwood @ Adelaide Oval

Betting Tip: Adelaide –16.5 @ $1.90

We expected better from Adelaide last week when struggling past West Coast, but they might have taken that game too cheaply.

A much better effort is expected against a Collingwood team going in the wrong direction, and it has now slipped to third on the AFL ladder.

Adelaide loves playing at home, and it’s good enough to cover the –16.5 spread with a complete performance on Saturday night.

Sunday 17/8/25

1:10pm North Melbourne vs. Richmond @ Ninja Stadium

Betting Tip: North Melbourne –10.5 @ $1.90

It’s not often we would suggest backing North Melbourne –10.5, but against Richmond, it’s hardly a surprising line.

The Tigers have struggled throughout 2025, and although they sit above the Kangaroos on the ladder, that could change over the last two weeks of the regular season.

Covering a –10.5 spread won’t be hard if North Melbourne is close to its best.

3:15pm Sydney vs. Geelong @ SCG

Betting Tip: Sydney +17.5 @ $1.90

There could be an upset in the making on Sunday as the Swans look to put some pressure on the Cats.

Sydney hasn’t been the easiest team to follow, but it has played well enough recently to include in picks against Geelong, which occupies the second place on the ladder.

It could be a close game throughout, and playing at home helps Sydney to cover the +17.5 spread.

4:40pm Western Bulldogs vs. West Coast @ Marvel Stadium

Betting Tip: Western Bulldogs -70.5 @ $1.90

The Bulldogs survived a scare last week to keep them in the finals hunt, but they get an easier game against West Coast in Round 23.

West Coast might have played well last week, but the Bulldogs should be in full flight and put up a big score against the worst team in the AFL.

The –70.5 line is hefty, but we can’t put our money on the Eagles.
