A-League Round 22 Expert Tips & Predictions

Following an epic battle between the top two sides in the A-League table last weekend, there is renewed interest in where the league title will end up.

Auckland FC stopped the winning run enjoyed by the Newcastle Jets in its tracks, before Sydney FC came unstuck against Melbourne City.

The Jets and Auckland do remain a cut above the rest as things stand though, with Melbourne Victory, Central Coast Mariners and Adelaide United all putting together decent runs in behind.

Down at the bottom of the pile, things are bunching up too, with Western Sydney Wanderers, Brisbane Roar, Wellington Phoenix and Perth Glory all separated by just a couple of points.

Things have been steadily improving for bottom side Western Sydney Wanderers, and they will be looking to build on some decent recent momentum, as they take on Adelaide United. Wanderers remain bottom of the pack, but they picked up a very good point at Brisbane Roar last weekend and should take heart from that. For Adelaide United, this is a fixture they know they need to win in the playoff race, and they are enjoying a five game unbeaten streak. This should be a good one, with the draw very much the value play.

Macarthur FC meanwhile were well beaten by Melbourne Victory last time out and they will need to respond here. This could be a good game, with Auckland FC in a good position to win the game.

Two sides in relative strife meet here, as Brisbane Roar host Wellington Phoenix in a bottom of the table clash. Roar haven’t been able to build on their strong start to the season and are languishing down at the foot of the pack as a result. Wellington Phoenix remain one of the more enigmatic teams in the league, but they too can’t seem to fully pull themselves away from trouble. This doesn’t feel like it will be a classic and the draw is very much in play.

Following on from their thumping win over Macarthur FC, Melbourne Victory will be chasing another serious scalp in this one, as they take on Central Coast Mariners. Victory could be coming good at the right time, and they know that a few more decent results would secure their playoff spot. Central Coast meanwhile are in the same boat, and their five game unbeaten stretch has pushed them into the top six. This could be the day it comes to a head though and Victory look decent value to prevail here.
