A-League Semi Finals (1st Leg) Expert Tips & Predictions

It is crunch time in the A-League, with the two, two legged semi-finals set to determine who will be battling it out in the Grand Final.

Western United and Melbourne Victory overcame two tough elimination finals to reach the last 4 and Auckland FC and Melbourne City are the sides awaiting them.

Auckland FC have been the pace setters all season and they will be looking to bring something back to New Zealand with them here, as they travel to Melbourne Victory.

Cross town rivals Melbourne City came good in the latter part of the campaign, and they will be looking to stay in the tie as they visit Western United in this one.

With both matches set to be played over two legs, thrills and spills appear guaranteed and it should be another bumper weekend of A-League action.

Having occupied two of the top three spots in the A-League table at the end of the regular season, both Western United and Melbourne City will be chomping at the bit to get going here. United knew that their game with Adelaide United in the elimination final would be a nail-biter but they managed to hold on for a 3-2 win and confidence should be high in the camp ahead of this one. Melbourne City meanwhile turned on the style in the back half of the campaign and for the first time in a few years, it feels like City have momentum backing them heading into the play-offs. This two-legged tie won’t be over following this first leg and Western United will be desperate to cash in on home advantage. However, Melbourne City are in excellent form and know that if they can stay in the tie, they can take it back to their place next week. With that in mind, this one could end up as an entertaining draw, between two very good A-Leagu teams.

The 2024/25 A-League season has been all about Auckland FC and they now stand just three games away from A-League glory. The new boys have set the standard throughout the regular season, but playoff football is always a very different proposition. They travel to Melbourne Victory next, a side that have always known how to get the job done and in this one, they have absolutely no pressure on them. Victory upset the odds and the form table to win at Western Sydney Wanderers last week and they tend to come good at the right time each year. This is unchartered territory for Auckland FC, but they will be looking to ensure they are still in the tie after 90 minutes and a return to New Zealand awaits next week. Victory have nothing to lose and their home fans and should be bang up for this, but Auckland have been superb all season and they should have enough to get out of Victoria with a draw.
